Gijs Bakker

Gijs Bakker, born in Amersfoort in 1942, is a Dutch jeweler and industrial designer. He studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and at the Konstfack in Stockholm. He has taught at many institutes such as ArteEZ in Arnhem, the Delft University of Technology and the Eindhoven Academy of Design, where he worked from 1987 to 2012. In 1993 Bakker became a co-founder of Droog Design, a collective of Dutch designers, of which he was artistic director until 2009. In 1996, together with the gallerist Marijke Vallanzasca, he founded the jewelery foundation Who's afraid…?. Since 2009 he continues to research and deepen the relationship between craftsmanship and design, which led him to become the creative director of Yii Taiwan.
