Maarten Baas
Maarten Baas is a Dutch designer, born in Arnsberg, Germany, in 1978. He graduated from the Endhover Academy of Design in 2002 and now works in his studio in Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. His creations are on the borderline between design and art: SMOKE, a series of charred objects covered in epoxy material, in fact earned him a place of honor at the Moss Gallery in New York. This is followed by synthetic clay furniture from the Clay series and sculptural ones from the Sculpt series. In 2005 Baas began collaborating with Bas Den Herder, who brought him into contact with an artisan reality. His works bring him international recognition: in 2009 he was named “Designer of the Year” by Design Miami and in 2016 he was awarded the Artprize award for his REAL TIME, Sweepers clock.
