Description-

The coffee table, designed by Eileen Gray in 1927 for ClassiCon, has become an icon in the history of international design. Added to MoMa's permanent collection in 1978, the Adjustable Table features a tubular black metal frame with a glass top. The possibility of adjusting its height and the simple lines make the table functional while maintaining an aesthetic of timeless beauty.

Designer

Eileen Gray

Eileen Gray was an Irish designer and architect and a pioneer of the Modern Movement in architecture. Born in Enniscorthy in 1878, she studied drawing and painting in London until she discovered her passion for lacquered furniture in a store in the Soho district, which led her in 1907 to move to Paris to study with Seizo Sugawara, a Japanese master of the technique of lacquering wood. Prompted by fellow architect Jean Badovici and Le Corbusier, Eileen began studying architecture in 1924: the result was her most iconic work, Villa E-1027 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on the French Riviera.
