Carl Hansen founded his company on the firm belief that fine craftsmanship and mass production could go hand in hand, thus guaranteeing the end consumer a high-quality product at a reasonable price. Even today, this simple but important idea underlies Carl Hansen & Søn's production, which combines state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies with traditional woodworking techniques. Much of the furniture produced today was designed by some of Denmark's greatest architects between the 1930s and 1960s.

Originally designed in 1963, this Hans J. Wegner design was made in very few pieces because of its complexity. Repurposed in 1998 by Carl Hansen & Søn with new materials and finishes, the Shell Chair is suitable for all types of environments, thanks to its elegant "wing-shaped" seat.
